Taneka Hicks

Taneka Hicks has been in the field of education with Jefferson County since 2001.  She is a graduate of Alabama A&M University and the University of Alabama at Birmingham.  She has worked as a career and technical education and work-based learning teacher/coordinator at Minor High School and Hueytown High School for a total of 18 years. She currently serves the Gardendale community as an assistant principal.

Mr. Darren James

Mr. James' career in education began in 2012, consisting of stops at Fairview (TN) and Moore County (TN). During this time Mr. James served as a Social Studies teacher and Baseball, Basketball and Football coach.

 
When Mr. James moved to Alabama in 2016 he served as a Social Studies teacher, Baseball and Football coach at Meridianville Middle School (Madison County). Mr. James also spent 2019-2020 at Decatur Middle School (Decatur City) teaching Social Studies and Mass Media. During his year at Decatur he coached Basketball and Football. Mr. James has since served as the Assistant Principal and Athletic Director at Guntersville High School. In the summer of 2022, Mr. James became the Assistant Principal at Gardendale High School.
 
Mr. James is a native of Hohenwald, TN. He is a graduate of Lewis County High School, a 2011 graduate of the University of Tennessee-Martin, a 2018 graduate of Carson-Newman University and in the same year received Educational Leadership Certification in Tennessee and Alabama. Mr. James is married to Elizabeth James (formerly Elizabeth Mosley) and has 2 children: Cooper and Olivia.
